Reuters reports that nearly 4,000 independent school districts websites have been hacked, and your childrens sensitive information may be sold on the black market.
The first report of a breach was on 4/18/16, and affected the entirety of students Los Angeles Unified School District. Since then many of the nations largest school districts have been affected.
The information that is now in the hands of ISIS cyber-warriors includes, but is not limited to;
- Phone number(s)
- Home address
- Public school transportation route(s)
- Passwords, which students may share with social media accounts and personal email accounts
- In some districts, social securities numbers are also stored digitally
This information is enough to open various accounts in your childrens name for a multitude of purposes.
The U.S. Cyber Command is suggesting that children in the affected districts change all of their social media and email passwords. Even so, the damage may have already been done.
